professional society. Founded in 1884 by a
handful of practitioners of the new
electrical engineering discipline, today's
Institute is comprised of more than 350,000
members who conduct and participate in its
activities in 150 countries. The Iran
Section of the IEEE is part of Region 8
which covers Europe, the Middle East and

certificate of appreciation, at the Region 8
committee meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, on 11
October 2009. This certificate was given to
Iran section for having the highest
percentage of membership growth (46.1%) in
the 2009 membership year, among IEEE Region
8 large sections (sections with more than

in ICEE’09
To celebrate 125 years of the IEEE
activities, the participants of the 17th
Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering
(ICEE’09) met the executives of the IEEE
Iran Section, On May 13, 2009.In his
presentation, the Section’s chair, Prof.
Hamid Soltanian Zadeh, introduced IEEE
services and activities both worldwide and
in Iran. After the presentation, some
questions mostly on membership benefits,
